WELCOME TO MY LITTLE SLICE OF INTERNET HEAVEN ~ because social media is boring but you are not.
It's been a long, long, long time since I've had a website of my own. I've sorely missed the days of building websites & making little graphics & coming up with site names & thinking up new page ideas & the community of creative folks that were doing the same thing. I've talked at length about building one again & as my boyfriend put it, having an internet within an internet, an underground community that you could only find through other sites, a hyperlink scavenger hunt... and then I would sigh and open Facebook and be sad looking @ all the regurgitated memes.
I began to build a new fancy site for my writing and photography, because that's what I thought I needed to do. Be taken seriously, build the site they wanna see.
But, I don't know, that doesn't fit me too well. I dig older forms of creative communication ~ 35mm film and cut-and-paste zines. I'm not clinging on to the past here!
I just feel it's important to keep these methods alive, because they're ACCESSIBLE. Learning basic HTML is easy, just like grabbing a disposible camera or hand-writing your manifesto.
You don't need the latest technology to be put your vision & voice out there.
But it would be lonely sitting out there by itself, an antique oddity in a sea of tumbling faces twittering about.
I had no idea there were others keeping this tradition alive until I stumbled upon NeoCities, and I knew it would be the perfect home for my site. NeoCities, for those who don't know, is a FREE web-hosting community.
It's users are cool creatives, reclaiming the internet for the people. (If you're sick of being constrained to social media and want to BE FREE TO BE YOURSELF, check them out! You can create a site on any server, but this one is free. Also HTML is pretty easy to get the hang of.)
